How can I find a reliable, secure web site hosting company?

I need to know how to select the best website hosting company for a new website builder. I don’t know very much about website construction. Also, I’m not sure how much room I need and don’t understand about servers, etc.

Well I have to say Dreamhost is the one you are looking for. They have 99.9% uptime, and they are really professional. They answered my email within an hour, very helpful. They offer UNLIMITED diskspace and bandwidth, so you can use as much as you like, and you won’t be disappointed with them. I host my websites there, and they are pretty good.

Both will give you the best support of any hosting company around. Dreamhost is employee owned, so they seem like they truly care about thier customers. Hostgator has awsome support. I have accounts with Dreamhost, Godaddy, Hostgator, and Justhost. Withouth a doubt, of all those Dreamhost and Hostgator by far have been the best.
As for your question about space, both of them offer unlimited server space, unlimited bandwith, and have options for unlimited domains. So you could run multiple websites off of one hosting account.

As for maintaining a site after publishing, both Dreamhost and Hostgator have a great webpanel for maintaining and keeping stats on your site. Hostgator uses cPanel, which is one of the top site config and management software available. Dreamhost has their own in house software they designed, which is super easy to use and they offer great support for it.
I would say Dreamhost is slightly better than Hostgator, but they will both treat you great and offer one on one help in case you run into problems, whereas some of the big companies, ie godaddy are terrible to deal with if you need one on one support with someone that speaks good english, especially if your not tech savy.
